If you are someone who does a lot of printing in their working environment, or even elsewhere in life, you’re going to want to choose the right sort of printer for the task at hand, one that best fits your needs and the types of things you’re printing off.

Now, as with anything in life, this isn’t an easy decision to make if it’s a subject you aren’t educated on. In fact, it would be near impossible if you didn’t have the slightest clue. But fear not, that is where this short article comes in handy.

If you’re eager to learn about three different types of printer and how each of them work, then do proceed, and in doing so make the mind gains you are searching for.

Dot Matrix Printers

This is one of those older pieces of technology that will probably be considered a relic in the next few years, with how fast technology is growing and all, but currently, Dot Matrix printers are still being used in small businesses and in homes for more personal tasks.

This printer works in the same sort of way old typewriters work: images and words are applied to our paper with a print head, which strikes the paper through an ink-embedded ribbon. This transfers a thin line of a graphic or one line of text at a time, using an array of dots to bring the piece together as one.

The only downside to these printers is that they are way slower than others, and tend to be a lot louder too. So you’ve been warned, refrain from using at night.

Ink Jet Printers

This is the most commonly-used printer today, and you will have no-doubt come across one of these at some stage during your life.

Although it may sound a lot simpler, the process is actually way more pinpointed. Ink jet printers work by spraying streams of ink directly onto the page, fashioning it into whatever it is you’re printing in a display of precise engineering and programming.

They are well programmed and tend to be highly effective, both in speed and accuracy, but can be a little tedious to refill often – especially if you’re using it a lot – and ink can be expensive.

Laser Printer

Laser printers are a little rarer than ink jet printers, and tend to be put to their best use when printing large volumes of text.

They work just as you’d imagine they would given their name, by projecting a laser onto a drum so that powdered toner can be electrically attracted to the paper to form your print. Even though they more typically create crisp black and white prints, you can also buy laser printers that print colour too, making them fit for any task.

With these printers, the cost of ink is taken away because none is involved. But when it comes to high-quality colour prints, high-end ink jet printers are much more suitable and lifelike, so investing in the cartridges would be beneficial if you need to print these types of things.

Choose Your Device

There you have it, you have officially been given an introduction to three types of printers; how they work and what they work best with. Now, when making what could potentially be a crucial decision, you can make it in much more confidence and secure the perfect printer for the task at hand.
